Maybe I just start out with how awesome my host has been to me and that without him I wouldn’t have seen most of the places around the Blue Mountain, which I consider amazing and magnificent. And that without him my first few days here would have been lonely and probably boring, so I have to thank him a lot for his time and effort.
Let’s go back to the day before yesterday (Tuesday). I started my day with walking to the Sublime Point and from there through a little forest to Katoomba, a great walk of approximately 8 km. Of course I was exhausted when I arrived there. I still was excited about my job which is supposed to start next week Monday. I have been now nearly 4 weeks out of work, of which only 3 were calculated, so you can imagine I am running on a fairly low budget at the moment. The job came at the right time.
When I arrived in Katoomba I looked for the Library which offered free Internet and looked up a few things and did some further planning for after Blue Mountain (Budget and time calculation etc.) After that I continued my walking through an amazing park and was on my way back to Leura. All in all not a very excited day, but so far the daily work out has been good for me, the mountain air is putting me to a great sleep and I just feel fantastic.
Yesterday I started my day a little bit late and had a good sleep in. I first went to the Leura Cascade and from there to the Bridal Veil Lookout until I reached the Echo Point Lookout for the Three Sisters, again a very exhausting but fantastic walk. As soon as I reach Katoomba I saw my host, what a coincidence. But I was not ready to go back and continued walking until I found a great place where I was able to rest and just listen to music and enjoy the scenery and enjoy my one of my last free days before starting work.
Today I joined my host for another get together with the car club. My host decided to drive today the classic Daimler, a brilliant car and in a very good condition. It was a great honour to drive in such a great car. First we spend some time at the historic town of Hartley, also called ghost town. We had some biscuits and tea before we continued to drive to Bathurst, the first city to settle in the Blue Mountain, with an active sport community and a great University as well as very well maintained housings/buildings.
Just 22 km before Bathurst the club stopped for a lunch session with a two course meal. My beef was excellent and the apple strudel with custard and ice just delicious. It was a great old Pub/Restaurant with a great atmosphere. Shame I couldn’t distribute so much to the conversations, I guess I was just a little bit too young to fit in….But never the less, a great afternoon.
We arrived in Bathurst and my host drove me around the Mount Panorama. In case you have no idea what there is…..hehe….A RACE CURCUIT. Yes and we did drive the race track along to the top of the mountain. Once a year a so called Great Race takes place here and it is a massive event. That was a great feeling and look out. I could see the old marks from previous accidents and just wanted to race down the mountain. After that we visited Bathurst town centre and viewed a few great buildings before we headed back to Leura via the Great Western Highway.
A long and great day comes to an end and…oh… hold on….there was something else. When I went upstairs to write my blog entry and get bed ready I saw that I had a missed called on my mobile, which is very unusual, because I rarely receive calls late in the evening. And well I listened to the voicemail and guess what? The manager from the Motel I was supposed to start on Monday called and said that she was called away and that I cannot start on Monday and that I need to wait for her call when I can start instead. You can imagine how disappointed I was. Not only do I need the money, but after such a long time without work, I was excited to get my hands dirty again and be more active.
This morning (20.05.2011):
I called the manager from the motel to request some more information, unfortunately she can’t tell me when she will be back and when I am able to start the job. So it really looks like it is just not meant to be. I talked to a nice lady in a coffee shop (in which I applied as well) and she told me that most people have several jobs and do a few days here and there. I made my decision and move on…
Tune in for more news from down under next week….Happy Travels!
