Oxford - A day trip from London

If you want to escape the London hassle and have some nice walks, good food and a little bit of history lessons Oxford is the place to be for you.

One Saturday morning near the end of a British Summer we decided it was about time to visit Oxford. We packed our bikes and were riding to the Paddington Station in Central London to catch the national train to take us to Oxford within an hour and a bit, it only cost around 12 Pounds which is really reasonable.

After leaving the train station we rode into the city center and our first stop was the Museum of History of Science. A really interesting collection and the admission is free, not much more you can ask for.

Once we were done with the Museum we rode around in the city for a spot with food and found the Tick-Tock Cafe, good food and reasonable prices, also the coffee was a tad too strong for me.

This was followed by a stop at the Botanical Garden. A very well maintained garden with a huge selection of various plants. With an admission price of around 5 Pounds I would certainly recommend it, but then a garden might not be for everyone's taste.

I AM GROOT!

And from there we managed to sneak into the Modern Art Gallery just in time to have a browse around before closing time. At the time of visit they had some very interesting collections, but of course this is constantly changing, so check out the website before you go. the shop itself had some really interested pieces as well.

And from there, well you can guess it, we made a final stop at the University of Oxford, unfortunately the main hall was closed and we could not go to see the more interesting parts since it was already pretty late. So if I would to plan this again, the University would come first. So we only managed to walk around the College and missed out on the collection and museum part. On their website you will also find a map to explore the main areas of interest. Also the admission is free, so thats a bonus!

This was a very nice day trip outside of London and I can really recommend it as it is usually not very busy. Happy Travels!
